My First Official Port City

This is the first blog entry for my current adventure I am appropriately calling: My Voyage Around The World ( I am literally going around the world on a ship, for those of you who are behind).

All the staff and faculty got on board the MV Explorer in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We made our way to Nassau, Bahamas to pick up the students (for some reason they had to board outside of the USA). I didn’t get any good pictures there because I only went into town for about a half an hour and it was very touristy.

Our first official port city was Roseau, Dominica. We spent 2 days here and I posted the best pictures I managed to get. It is warm, sunny and lush here so there isn’t much to complain about. It is however a very small city and 2 days was more than enough to get a feel for the area. We leave around 6 p.m. and make out way over to Manaus, Brazil, which involves 6 straight days at sea. I hope it is smooth sailing because I have already had to take motion sickness medicine for our first 2-day stretch. The ship rocks more than I had expected, but luckily the medicine works great and I can take it the whole time if I need to.

I am trying to focus on my 5 senses at each port and make note of anything that sticks out. The two most memorable things was the fresh smell of the rainforest and the sound of the upbeat Caribbean music that poured out of homes, stores, cars and locals mouths.
